Best ice cream
in Venice

What you should
know!

  • When you enter an ice cream parlour in Italy, there is one thing you should bear in mind: before you focus your attention on the different flavours, you should consider the size of the portion. Because first you pay, then you choose.
  • We recommend only buying ice cream where the price is displayed in advance. We have heard of some nasty surprises, where people have paid EUR 18 for two scoops of ice cream in a cone, which is at least three times too much.
  • ‘Piccolo’ refers to a small portion with 1 to 2 flavours, “medio” to a medium-sized portion with 2 to 3 flavours and ‘grande’ to the largest portion with 3 to 4 flavours.
  • If you want a cone, order a ‘cono’ and if you prefer to eat your ice cream from a cup, order a ‘coppetta’. (This is not important when paying, but only when choosing the ice cream flavours!)
  • And finally, a word about the price: if you eat your ice cream in the gelateria, or ice cream parlour, you can expect to pay a little more, as a service charge may also be added.
