Explore beyond Venice
Venice is full of narrow alleyways, and while there are green spaces, you have to know where to find them. As the city lies in a lagoon, water is never in short supply — but sometimes it’s nice to leave the historic centre and explore the many other islands or even the mainland.
We’ve put together a few options for you here.
Enjoy the read!
Murano
The island of Murano is best suited for people who are only visiting Venice for the long weekend. It has a lot to offer – especially all around glass making art! The museum gives the background and there are a lot of glass blowing demonstrations showing you how it’s done.
Shop your own glass item afterwards and have great memories.
And the island is just a stone’s throw away from the historic island of Venice!
Torcello
This island is the furthest from Venice's old town. What's special about it: it has only around 14 inhabitants (as of 2009).
Book Boat tripSan Michele
The island is home to only one thing: the cemetery of the same name, San Michele. It is believed that some Italian celebrities are buried here.

Text in ProgressLido di Venezia
Lido means beach. And even though Venice's historic center consists of a lot of water, you can't swim there. But you can on the island of Lido di Venezia ;)
Text in progressBurano
Burano: A feast for the eyes. The island is especially photogenic. But it takes longer to get there. A weekend in Venice could be too short to visit it.
