Cannabis Museum Amsterdam
Amsterdam attracts visitors from all over the world not only because of its beautiful canals, but also because the purchase and use of THC-containing products is tolerated in the Netherlands. For this reason, there are two independent museums on the subject: the Cannabis Museum, which we are discussing here, and the Hash & Hemp Museum, which we rated more highly.
My Rating
The Positives:
The exhibition is designed by fans for fans of the cannabis plant. It's fun to visit, but...
The Negatives:
...don't expect a truly critical examination of the topic of marijuana at the Cannabis Museum.
Tip:
Anyone wanting more background information and a better presentation of the topic would be better off going to the Hash Museum.

The details
at a glance
What is there
to see?
At the Cannabis Museum, you’ll find a colourful, sometimes slightly flamboyant exhibition centred on marijuana and the hemp plant. There is no audio guide, but the use of modern multimedia technology and interactive stations ensures that the information is conveyed in an entertaining and engaging way.
As you move through the various rooms, you’ll learn, for example, how the intoxicant is produced and how it is consumed. The museum also demonstrates the many other ways in which the cannabis plant is used—you’re likely to be surprised.
Of course, the exhibition also addresses the often critical, and sometimes even negative, attitudes towards hashish consumption today, and explores how perceptions of it have changed from the past to the present.
After your visit
you can try it for yourself
On the top floor of the museum, visitors are given the opportunity to put theory into practice.
The staff are happy to advise and assist you. If you like what you taste—and perhaps also how it makes you feel—you can purchase not only a suitable souvenir in the in-house shop, but also a joint to take away. There’s even a small goodie bag included: with or without intoxicating contents, entirely depending on your preference.
Before fully immersing yourself in the world of marijuana, however, it’s wise to check whether, for example, traces of THC in your system could cause you any issues. If you’re unsure, it’s best to opt for the version without any “extras”.
If you’re looking for more in-depth information about the use of hemp and hashish, you may prefer to visit the Hash & Hemp Museum instead.
