“Welcome to Rome” is a multimedia exhibition that brings the history of Rome to life through five immersive installations. The entire tour lasts about an hour, with the film in the cinema hall taking up roughly half of that time.
One room is dedicated to ancient Rome, featuring the Roman Forum and the Imperial Fora. Through light and video effects, visitors can grasp the monumental scale of these structures and also see what remains of them today. Another room delves deeper into the Roman temples, explaining their function and architectural design in an engaging way.
A four-minute video show focuses on the Mausoleum of Hadrian, now known as Castel Sant’Angelo. Originally built as a tomb for the Roman Emperor Hadrian and his family, the structure was repurposed over the centuries: from an imperial tomb to a fortress, later a papal refuge with a secret passage to the Vatican, and finally a prison and museum.
Of course, no exhibition about Rome would be complete without the St. Peter’s Basilica. Its 120-year construction history is illustrated through stunning animations. Architecture, engineering, challenges, and religious context are explained, providing a comprehensive understanding of this iconic structure.
To conclude, visitors take a seat in the cinema hall where a film narrates Rome’s nearly 3,000-year history. Spectacular visual and sound effects connect the past with the present.
This tour is an excellent introduction for first-time visitors to Rome and is also suitable for children aged 10 and up.
