BACKGROUND ABOUT THE ARCHITECT
Next to Barcelona Cathedral in the Gothic Quarter was an unusual fusion of medieval art, crafts and explanations of Gaudí’s architecture.
The Gaudí exhibition center closed its doors…
BUT: The former Museo Diocesan seams to be back, with new Exhibitions!
My Rating:
The positives:
In what used to be the Feeding Building, which was part of the cathedral, was then a fusion of medieval art, crafts and explanations of Gaudí's architecture....
The negatives:
... but since a few months the museum closed its doors (again).
Open again:
Museo Diocesan. But if it is like before the closing, that we don't know. Hence, the 0 points...

What WAS there
to see?
The former Diocese museum, next to Barcelona Cathedral, got into a fusion with the Gaudi Exhibition Center. You could see some Medieval sculptures and religious artefacts next to explanations about Gaudis work. Why? Because he was influenced by so many different times and cultures: Medieval art, Arabic architecture and Nature.
Going into the collection, the digital tour starts with a little movie, explaining the ideas of Gaudi. The audio guide then gets you into the next room and impresses by focusing with spotlights on the different exhibits – automatically. But then it is an audio guide like everywhere else.
In the exhibition you find different kind of crafts: the way they were handelt during the time of Gaudi – and sometimes they come with a little aha-moment 🙂
On the topmost floor, you will find models and sketches Antoni Gaudí created. There are also old newspaper articles, tools, and explanations on individual work steps, such as working with glass windows.
Today, the museum seems to be fully dedicated to its origins – as before: its time as a poorhouse, its connection to the cathedral and, accordingly, many exhibits on the subject of Christianity.
