Events in June
L’ou com balla – Thursday before Pentecost
The dancing eggs of Barcelona! There are unusual scenes to be seen in Barcelona on Corpus Christi. In the Gothic Quarter you will discover eggs in some fountains. These dance on the water and miraculously don’t fall down! This spectacle is called in Catalan: L’ou com balla. The tradition has existed since 1637 and the fountains are richly decorated with flowers. Back then, real eggs were used, but today they are made of polystyrene or something similar.
When: On Corpus Christi and up to 3 days after
Where: Gothic Quarter around La Seu Cathedral and its cloister, courtyard, Marès Museum, Lieutenant’s Palace (Palau de Lloctinent), Casa de l’Ardiaca, Pedalbres Monastery.
Sant Joan – La revetlla
A festival is dedicated to Saint Juan (Saint John). During this night, one burns contaminated sites and cleanses oneself of illnesses by jumping into the water. At the same time, it is the celebration of the beginning of summer. For this reason, large fires made of old furniture etc. are lit in various places in Barcelona. Children and adults play with firecrackers and fireworks and there is a big party on the beach with music, drinks and water jumps at midnight.

Primavera Sound
Primavera Sound is a music festival in Barcelona that lasts several days and has many artists in the line-up.

Something for warm summer nights
Magical Nights at Casa Batlló
For several years now, these Magical Nights have been held at Casa Batlló. And in 2026, you’ll once again have the chance to visit Gaudí’s “dragon house” in the evening, followed by a one-hour concert on the rooftop terrace.
From soul and jazz to pop and rock, as well as flamenco and Spanish guitar, there’s truly something for everyone. Take a look at the calendar and book your Magic Night at Casa Batlló!

Fiesta Major de Gracia
Now this is where the citizens of Gracia get to go wild. Various streets participate in a decoration competition – and, of course, everyone wants to be the biggest, the most colorful, and the most creative. So you might start in a street with an Alice in Wonderland theme, and end up in a neighboring one, reminding you much more of the little Gallic village from the Astérix comic books. Beware, though: Some streets might go for zombies or a Jurassic Park motif, if the past years are any indication. We’ll have to see what they come up with this year.

August is a special month… because it feels like all the Barcelonians have left the city! Small and large companies and stores, restaurants and bars – many of them will close for company-wide holidays. Events in September
La Diada – Catalonia’s National Day
The Diada Nacional de Catalunya, Catalonia’s national day — also known as L’Onze de Setembre (The Eleventh of September) — is celebrated every year on 11 September. It commemorates the fall of Barcelona on 11 September 1714 during the War of the Spanish Succession. Following the defeat, King Philip V introduced a centralised Spanish state modelled after France and abolished Catalonia’s historic self-government, which had existed since the times of the Crown of Aragon.
In recent years, La Diada has also become strongly associated with the Catalan independence movement. Many Catalans display their flags, decorate their balconies, wear T-shirts featuring independence symbols and gather throughout the city to exchange ideas, celebrate and demonstrate.
When: 11 September
Where: all across Barcelona
La Mercè
The city’s patron saint, Mercè, is honoured with a seven-day festival. The diverse programme includes dance, music, acrobatics, the famous Castellers (human towers), the Gegants (giant papier-mâché figures) and the Correfoc (fire runs — caution advised!).
In short: there is a huge amount happening throughout the city. You can either check the annually changing programme and choose specific events, or simply wander through the city centre and let yourself be surprised. Sooner or later, you are guaranteed to stumble upon something unforgettable.
When: around 24 September for seven days
Where: throughout the city, mainly in the historic centre of Barcelona
