Campo de' Fiori
VEGETABLES, CHEESE AND MORE!
The Campo de’ Fiori (called the Field of Flowers) is a large market in the centre of Rome. It actually got its name because of its original nature. In the Middle Ages, there was a field of flowers here – until a horse market was opened on this spot.
My rating:
The Positives:
A small open-air market in the old town. Local products are offered and many a Roman can be seen here ...
The negatives:
... but also a lot of tourists and tourist products: Here you can find souvenirs in the form of oils and herbs.
Tip:
Look at the stalls where the locals buy. That's how I got a very good cheese! (It is also vacuum-packed!)

What is there
to see?
The Campo de’ Fiori (meaning field of flowers) actually has its name because of its original nature. In the Middle Ages, there was a field of flowers here – until a horse market was opened on this spot. In 1869, the city’s flower market, which until then had been held in Piazza Navona, was moved here. This, of course, further emphasised the name.
There are no important palaces or sights in the square, only the statue of the philosopher Giordano Bruno was erected here in 1889. He was burned here as a heretic in 1600…
However, there are three influential palaces near the Campo de’ Fiori: the Palazzo Farnese, the Galleria Spada and the Palazzo della Cancelleria.
