Monastery of Pedralbes
AN OASIS IN BARCELONA
Do you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the peace and great art? The monastery is in a remote part of town that feels almost like a village. How did the nuns live behind these walls back then? And there are also great sacred art treasures.
My Rating:
The positives:
A place of tranquility and an absolutely gorgeous courtyard, an amazing art collection and an English language audio guide... What more could you possibly want?
The negatives:
All right, all right, the monastery is a bit off the beaten path, but it still only takes about half an hour (from the city center) to get there.

What is there
to see?
While this monastery is located a bit outside of the city center, it’s absolutely worth a visit: when you’re standing in front of the monastery and the church, you’ll feel almost as if you’re standing in the middle of a little Spanish village.
The monastery itself will also launch you into another age. The quiet courtyard with its herb garden and the different attached rooms such as nuns’ chambers, the kitchens, and the dormitories all give you a sense of the life of a nun in a time long passed.
Inside the former dormitory, you’ll find the present-day exhibition hall. The presentation “The Monastery’s Treasures” will help you get to know the monastery’s artwork, which includes paintings, sculptures, gold and silver art, books, and many more. The entire art collection was acquired by the nuns over centuries.
