Wax Museum Barcelona
Meet the who is who
Over 120 wax figures from 23 different thematic areas, very modern interactive elements, and also a beautiful old building make the Wax Museum quite an alternative to the main attractions in Barcelona.
My Rating:
The positives:
Completely redesigned with many internationally known wax figures.
Exciting interactive installations in a very beautiful building.
The negatives:
A bit expensive...
Notice:
The 'Horror' section really deserves its name. Very well done but not for the faint of heart or children. To bypass them, there is a 'shortcut' with an interactive floor.

WHAT IS THERE
TO SEE?
The Barcelona Wax Museum is located a stone’s throw from Las Rambla, at the end of a small alleyway in a pretty octagonal square. Although you can’t see the building directly, it is very easy to find. There is a stand right on the Ramblas where you can buy tickets – if you haven’t already pre-booked online, which is also recommended here! (You will then save EUR 2).
The museum is divided into 23 themed areas and has more than 120 wax figures. But there is much more to see and do!
In the first room, we encounter a tribute to Antoni Gaudí and his most important patron, Eusebi Güell. It is also a waiting room for the first attraction: a virtual lift ride through the roof of the museum, flight over the city included!
We continue with a very special place: the vault of the bank that once had its headquarters here, in its original state. Fittingly, we find figures from the Spanish series ‘House of Money’ here – including a policeman who is supposed to hunt down the robbers.
We continue in the same style throughout the museum: we find ourselves in beautiful rooms (be sure to take a look at the ceiling!) and see very well-made wax figures, which we can, of course, take photos with. Occasionally there is an interactive element.
For example, we pass through the following areas, where we can discover the figures of the most important representatives: Jungle (King Kong!), Catalan culture, writers, science, pop stars, musicians, painters (I particularly liked Frida Kahlo and Picasso!), Hollywood stars (rendezvous with Leo guaranteed!), sport, horror, magic (yes, with Harry Potter), or even pirates.
Contemporary topics are also addressed, such as climate change, deep-sea research and astronomy (you almost fly through space!).
In most areas, you are literally immersed in another world, which of course makes the visit even more exciting.
The mixture of local and international personalities is also well done, although the last are clearly in the majority, which can please visitors from abroad.
If you haven’t had enough after your visit and need a refreshment, I recommend the museum café “El Bosc de les Fades” (right next to the entrance), a magical place populated by trees, gnomes and other unexpected creatures.
WAX MUSEUM BARCELONA
a bit of HISTORY
The building of the Barcelona Wax Museum was designed by Elías Rogent in 1867. It was the headquarters of the Banc de Barcelona and later the Crédito y Docks bank. It is a small palace that is considered a neoclassical building of historical and artistic interest.
After the bank left the premises, the architect and set designer Enrique Alarcón decided to convert the building into a wax museum. It was inaugurated in 1973 and for many years there were hardly any changes or new figures. As a result, the museum was somewhat forgotten.
This was to change in 2020. After a change of ownership, it was completely redesigned and reopened on 4 December 2020. In the future, it will continue to be a lively and constantly updated museum, with the addition of 15 – 20 new figures per year.
The wax museum in Barcelona is not a Madame Tussauds offshoot. You can find these in Amsterdam and Vienna.
