Jardin de Luxembourg
With 26 hectares, the Jardin du Luxembourg is one of the large urban parks in Paris. It is varied and designed partly in French, partly in English style. A highlight is the Medici fountain, with imposing sculptures from Greek mythology.
My Rating:
The positives:
Opulent flower borders, a romantic fountain, imposing statues, a historic orchard, the carousel that inspired Rilke... The beautiful garden next to the Sorbonne is a popular spot for both Parisians and tourists, and rightly so.
The negatives:
The Palais du Luxembourg is home to the French Senate, so unfortunately it can only be visited on European Heritage Day.
Tip:
The proportion of women among the statues is unusually high - can you find all 20?
