FUN, PHOTOS AND MUSIC
IKONO Barcelona
After IKONO Madrid and IKONO Rome, there is now IKONO in Barcelona as well, and here, everything is about the senses: touch, feel, immerse yourself in different worlds, paint with light, listen to cool music, lounge in a bathtub…
The pool full of balls is also a must, complete with a slide!
Certainly, an alternative to traditional sightseeing, especially for families with slightly older children.
My rating:
The Positives:
Modern, brightly decorated, and mostly interactive spaces. Light painting is especially fun.
The Negatives:
A bit expensive, especially since there is no family ticket. Some rooms appear temporary (the transition from one area to another, and that happens twice).
Tip:
Go on a weekday morning - it's less crowded then!
One floor up is the visitor terrace of the Arenas shopping center: a beautiful view of Montjuïc with the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya and Plaça Espanya!

What is there
to see?
On the 3rd floor of the Arenas shopping center, located in a former bullring, the third branch of IKONO has been permanently established. After those in Madrid and Rome, we were curious to visit and compare.
IKONO offers interactive sensory experiences that encourage communal enjoyment.
In Barcelona, you’ll find 11 different rooms on one floor, experienced in a circular tour. It’s best to leave jackets and bags in the cloakroom. You’ll see why in the first room: a pool full of balls!
It’s not just children who are excited here; adults are too. You can slide down into the balls (well, only if you’re wearing clothes suitable for sliding), completely immerse yourself, and be surrounded by balls. Getting up afterward isn’t that easy. There’s even a small platform for jumping in. The room is kept dark with changing, colorful lighting – very nice!
In the next room, you’ll encounter a robotic dog! It dances, jumps, and follows you around. From this room, three more rooms branch off – don’t miss any of them because all three are wonderful!
Firstly, there’s a colorful room where the floor, ceiling, and walls have the same wallpaper. Grab one of the coats and “disappear” into the wall 😉 Here, you can create fantastic photo opportunities! It’s all about camouflage!
Back to the central room and into the next adventure! Because from here, you can also enter the Light Painting area. In four booths, you can use your phone’s flashlight to draw a figure over the photo that’s taken of you. You only have three attempts, and you can have the best one sent to you via email. It’s trickier than you might think, but it’s fun, and the digital souvenir is a nice extra. We conjured up the Museos logo – can you recognize it?
After so much sensory stimulation, the next world is quite soothing: a dark room filled with yellow lanterns that multiply infinitely thanks to mirrors. Very calming and beautifully simple. It doesn’t always take “bling-bling” to make an impression.
Unfortunately, the coherence of the rooms is somewhat lost as we pass through a somewhat uninspired “space” (?) corridor to an entirely undecorated corridor (the shopping center’s emergency exit).
Afterward, there’s an area with many hanging, colorful fabric and glitter strips. It’s fun to get lost in them (be careful not to bump into other visitors!), but the overall impression is a bit lacking.
Further on, there are rooms with brightly lit partition walls, confetti showers, cubes that provide a light show synchronized with the really good music, a room with computer games, and a sexy bathroom!
All in all, plenty of subjects to take funny photos and, as mentioned at the beginning, to experience something together.
Summery
Interactive experience worlds are currently trending in Barcelona. IKONO can certainly keep up and offers a nice change of pace. If you’ve already been to an IKONO in Madrid or Rome, you can skip the visit here, as they are quite similar.
As in other cities, it’s not a must-visit attraction, but IKONO Barcelona provides a nice change of pace for families with slightly older children who are already interested in photography and mobile art, etc. For Céline’s 5-year-old girls, it might not be the best choice, except for the ball pit…
But IKONO is especially for TikTok and Instagram enthusiasts! You can create great stories, reels, and photos for your account here!
Yours,
Jacqueline
